Primary His Ass

CAUTION: Angry, explicit Little Isis rant about to ensue.

Prelude: Our Hearts go out to Norway.

Word on the street is that Bernie Sanders thinks someone should primary Obama.

SANDERS: Brian, believe me, I wish I had the answer to your question. Let me just suggest this. I think there are millions of Americans who are deeply disappointed in the president, who believe that with regard to Social Security and other things, he said one thing as a candidate and is doing something very much else as a president. Who cannot believe how weak he has been for whatever reason in negotiating with Republicans, and there’s deep disappointment. So my suggestion is, I think one of the reasons the president has made the move so far to the right is that there is no primary opposition to him and I think it would do this country a good deal of service if people started thinking about candidates out there to begin contrasting a progressive agenda as opposed to what Obama believes he’s doing. […] So I would say to Ryan, discouragement is not an option. I think it would be a good idea if President Obama faced some primary opposition.

No shit, Sherlock. Someone should primary Obama? What a novel idea. Why don’t you do it, Bernie? Why not get some balls?

Bust this shit, readers. I had my first job when I was sixteen. I was a cashier at burger king. I still remember that first paycheck. Oh, the sweet smell of hard earned money. I relished opening that check. And of course when I did, I saw that some of my earnings were deducted for social security and other taxes. Some of my coworkers bitched about it, but I didn’t mind. At sixteen I knew that if I didn’t make bank later in life I was paying into a system that would benefit me for my contribution to society. I was raised on work ethic and honesty, like most Americans. Only unlike most Americans, I took it serioiusly.

I work hard, readers. I bust my ass. I’m a certified hustler, and I have paid for everything I own, from the clothes on my back to the nail polish on my toes to the ghetto ass car I drive. Don’t try to tell me I’m a spoiled millennial, because I’ll kick your ass from here to Canada.

Yeah, Obama should face some primary opposition. In fact, WHY IS HE NOT FACING A PRIMARY CHALLENGE RIGHT NOW? WHAT DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENT CUTS SOCIAL SECURITY, MEDICAID AND MEDICARE AND DOES NOT FACE A PRIMARY CHALLENGE?

Jesus Christ. If I were old enough, I would primary him. And don’t give me that shit. Talkin’ bout “B-b-b-but, there’s no way, Little Isis! That can’t happen! It would weaken the party! Bachmann would win! We’ll all DIIIIIIEEEEEE!”

F*ck that noise. If Bachmann runs and wins against Obama, know what imma do? Laugh. I will laugh and laugh. And then I will f*cking point at your stupid asses and laugh some more.

What makes you think I give a shit about how a primary challenge to Obama might affect the Democratic Party and its chances for 2012? What has the Democratic Party done for ME lately, other than take away my benefits, cut my financial aid and do everything humanly possible to not give a shit about the future of my generation and by extension this country?

Oh. Primary Opposition to Obama would weaken him for 2012? Let me just pretend for a second that I care…

wait for it….

waaaaiiiiit….

Nope, still don’t give a shit. I don’t care who replaces him. Me and every other American pays for his food, his house, his jet and his butlers. And his ass is canned.

Back to the Pipe and the Pole

Here is a letter I received a few days ago from the President of my University.

Last summer, I formed an advisory task force to assist the University in developing a plan to prepare for probable reductions in state funding for higher education and to assist the University in developing a new instructional resource model. The task force consists of faculty, academic deans, administrators, and staff.

On December 18, 2010, the task force held an open forum. At that forum, Provost Mearns, who is co-chair of the task force, discussed the status of the task force’s efforts to assist in developing a contingency plan for next year’s budget. I attended the forum.

Since then, the task force has continued to provide me with additional recommendations. Those recommendations are detailed in a written report that is now available on the task force’s webpage.

This report recommends overall budget target ranges for each of the University’s major sectors: academic colleges, academic support units, and university administrative units. I have accepted these sector recommendations. In December, I provided differentiated budget targets to each of the vice presidents who manage university administrative units, and I directed them to prepare a contingency plan to meet their unit’s respective target. They have submitted their plans to me, which I am currently reviewing.

The task force’s report also provided specific recommendations about differentiated targets for each of the academic colleges. After developing a list of strategic factors and applying those factors to readily available data, the task force assigned each academic college to one of three groups, or bands. As discussed in the report, a college or an administrative unit can meet its proposed budget target through both permanent expense reductions and reliable revenue enhancements.

After reviewing an initial draft of the report, I met at length with Provost Mearns, Vice President George Walker and Tim Long, the University’s Budget Director, to review the strategic factors and the data relied upon by the task force to develop its differentiated recommendations for each of the academic colleges. In making my decisions, I relied upon the same strategic factors developed by the task force, including: how a college’s programs aligned with the University’s primary strategic goals; a college’s financial performance relative to the other colleges at the University; the extent to which a college has programs, including doctoral programs, with relatively few students; an assessment of the productivity and impact of the college’s research faculty; the success of a college’s students as measured by undergraduate retention and graduation rates and post-graduate licensing exams; and the ability of a college to develop differential tuition plans or increase enrollment above existing limits.

After this review, I accepted all of the task force’s recommendations with respect to the colleges’ budget targets, with one exception. I have delegated to Provost Mearns the responsibility of establishing differentiated targets for the various academic support units that report to him.

Provost Mearns has communicated the college targets to the deans, and he has asked them to provide him with their college’s plan by February 22, 2011. He has also directed the deans to consult with their respective faculties and staff in developing their college’s plan.

By early March, I anticipate that our collective strategy for meeting this financial challenge will begin to become more clear. Governor Kasich will present his proposed budget to the legislature on or before March 15. I anticipate that, when his budget is released, we will know much more about two of the most important factors that are driving this process: the approximate amount of any reduction in the state subsidy for higher education, and the limit on any possible increase in undergraduate tuition. By that time, we will also have had an opportunity to evaluate the various college and administrative plans that have been submitted.

When we have more information from the Governor, I will hold an open forum in March to discuss our University plan.

I know that this process is difficult and that it is causing some anxiety and uncertainty. I believe, however, that we have established a collaborative and transparent process that will enable the University to overcome this challenge. Indeed, I am encouraged by the constructive contributions that so many of you have already made to our contingency planning process. Therefore, I am confident that we will emerge from this process as a stronger institution — which is our goal.

Thank you for your service to our students, our University, and our community.

Indeed. To those of you who still believe in the American Dream, let me explain how it really works for you. Say Jane wants to grow up and become a Doctor. But Jane and her family live piss poor, so she works hard in High School, gets good grades in accelerated courses and takes part in track and cheerleading or  some such other extracurricular nonsense that will look good on college applications. She gets accepted into a good school and manages to keep from getting pregnant. What a stand up gal Jane is, don’t you think? She gets some scholarships. Good for her! She gets Pell Grants and subsidized and unsubsidized loans through FAFSA. That’s our girl.

Before you know it she is accepted into Harvard Medical School and graduates with honors. Bravo! The problem is, now Jane has upwards of $200,000 worth of student loans to pay back. She gets married and begins practice as a pediatrician, her lifelong dream. But it will be a while before she begins to really rake in the dough and there are medical malpractice lawsuits on the horizon. Nonetheless, she and her husband, a college professor, are living well, having babies and attending church on Sundays. Everything seems fine until disaster strikes. Her mother is still piss poor and has just suffered from a stroke. A neighbor finds her laying face down in her apartment surrounded by urine and her own feces. Jane’s mother is admitted to the hospital and is soon discharged. Incontinent, paralyzed from the waist down and unable to take care of herself, Jane’s mother is just above the income threshold for medicaid and there are limited funds. She has no Health Insurance and therefore cannot afford to live in a Nursing Home or Assisted Living Facility, so Jane has to quit her job to take care of her mother, as her husband is unwilling to quit his. The financial problems caused by the fact that Jane can no longer supplement the family income as well as the demands of taking care of a sick elderly woman takes a toll on their marriage, and Jane’s husband starts banging his secretary. They get a divorce and the children are heartbroken. Jane is now a single mother with no job. She still has student loans and legal fees to pay back, no home because she can’t afford a mortgage, and three kids to put through college. Her oldest daughter Sarah is devastated by the break up of her family and commits suicide.  Three months later, Jane’s mother dies due to inadequate medical care. Jane’s American Dream has turned into an American Nightmare.

Sounds extreme, right? Wrong. Things like this are happening everywhere. I can tell you that it is extremely difficult to pay for college, and I will explain why. Most people have an idea of the average college student’s financial situation. A freshman will have mom and dad foot most of the bill and private loans will take care of the rest, right?

Wrong.

Take me for example. I graduated from that Shithole High School a semester early with decent grades and community service. Go me, right? I figured I might as well try to go to college, so I briefly (and by briefly, I mean for about two seconds) thought about going into the military and even told the Hell Hole High School that those were my plans so they would let me graduate early. I took the ASVAB tests and got excellent scores, fielding calls from every military branch recruiter known to man telling me to join so I could become an officer. Of course, I am not going to go into the Military. I am a pacifist. So I changed my phone number to get rid of the recruiters and enrolled at the local junior college, with plans to save money on Gen Eds in mind. Problem was, my Dad makes too much money for me to get FAFSA and we are somewhat estranged. I had to work my tail off and go to School part time so I could get taken off of his tax returns, as a student has to be enrolled in school full time to be on their parents tax returns after they’re eighteen and to still be on their parents health insurance plan.

In any case, I no longer have Health Insurance but now that I’m off his taxes I go to School overtime, supplemented by a hefty financial aid award. But get this!

President Obama and his aides have spent a good bit of time over the last several weeks talking about the importance of education. Now they announce that they plan to cut spending on Pell grants, the big student-aid program that helps students in (roughly) the bottom half of the income distribution. As Jackie Calmes explains:

Pell grants for needy college students would be eliminated for summer classes, and graduate students would start accruing interest immediately on federal loans, though they would not have to pay until after they graduate; both changes are intended to help save $100 billion over 10 years to offset the costs of maintaining Pell grants for nine million students, according to administration officials.

Oh, fantastic! Keep in mind that my situation is not unique. Many students are like me, with families either too poor or too unwilling to help pay for school. I have a friend, for example, who had to run away from home when she was in Hell High School because her Step Father was beating her mother. She supported herself with two jobs and help from family and friends until she graduated, and now she has classes with me. I don’t know how she does it, because she is forced by FAFSA to file as a dependent even though she receives no help from her family and supports herself completely. She is awarded funds based on the assumption that her parents help her when in reality she has to pay for full time school as well as everything else.

And why is it that school is so expensive? Gods only know. The cost of living has increased exponentially since my parents were in college. It is easy for some stuck-in-the past 1950’s holdover to lecture one of us stupid delinquent teenagers about how THEY did it when they were our age so why can’t we? Well, I feel like saying to these idiots, you’re the ignorant fools who elected conservative Presidents and congresses for the past several decades and caused the inflation and budget cuts that led to all of these problems. Get over yourself.

Not only that, but tuition is obscenely expensive since now colleges are run more like businesses instead of academic institutions that shape young minds and prepare the leaders of tomorrow. I have to pay thousands of dollars for Professors to teach me the same bull shit I’ve been learning since the sixth grade (which is not to say I don’t learn a lot in College these days from certain professors, but I digress) and then once I and many students have paid several more thousands to complete an undergraduate degree two thirds of us STILL won’t be able to get a job. And people wonder why our education system is so behind.

Well, one might say, you may not be achieving all of your fancy starry eyed dreams but at least you are bettering yourself for the real world. Maybe you’ll be a hospital administrator instead of a chemical engineer but at least you have the right to a comfortable lifestyle and a reasonable retirement, right? Wrong.

So far, Obama has had the following “bright ideas” and has proposed them to Congress:

(1) Obama proposed (and Congress passed) a $112 Billion REDUCTION in revenues coming into the Social Security trust fund for this year; that is a cut of 30% in workers’ contributions to the Fund.  I think we can be pretty sure this $112 Billion annual cut in Social Security taxes will be made permanent with the full agreement of Obama. It won’t take long, at that rate, for Social Security to drain its fund (and current surplus) and go out of business.

(2) Obama has proposed a 50% REDUCTION in federal aid to the program that helps poor people pay heating bills for their homes

(3) Obama is proposing that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac go out of business, which will make it harder — if not impossible — for lower-income and middle-income people to buy their homes instead of paying endless rents

(4) Obama is proposing that the interest homeowners pay for their mortgages NO longer be fully deductible on their income taxes. In the early years of any mortgage, the bulk of the monthly mortgage payment goes to pay the interest on the mortgage; having that great sum be deductible has made it possible for people to buy homes and not default on their mortgages when finances are tight (as they often are when new homeowners are just starting out).

The result of Obama’s “bright” ideas, numbers (3) and (4), will be to make it harder for current homeowners to SELL their homes, will DEFLATE the value of their homes, will cause more people to default on their mortgages, and will create a situation where communities will take in LESS in the way of property taxes because of the number of vacant, abandoned homes that will become liabilities.

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
And Obama is doing all of this cutting less than two months after signing into law tax CUTS for the wealthiest Americans.

The Republicans have the EXACT right Democrat in the White House for their evil purposes. Obama is: (1)  helping the Republicans realize their decades-long goal of destroying the Social Security program, (2) proposing policies that will create an even wider division between the “haves” and “have-nots” in America, and (3)proposing policies that will create a sub-class of Americans that the top one percent of Americans will be able to reduce to economic slavery.

That’s right. So long house in the ‘burbs. Bye bye white picket fence, 2.4 children and Labrador Retriever. S’later retirement fund, pensions, IRA. Hi poverty, what it do destitution? We’re the leaders of tomorrow. Nice to meetcha!

It just won’t do. Obama is a Republican Dream, not an American Dream. Why, just look at the cover of one of his famous “books.”

The Audacity of Nope

To Obama, this is the American Dream. Jane’s life would be everyone’s life with the policies he is currently championing. Can you believe this is happening? Well, I can. I’ve been saying who Obama is from the get-go. All it took was reading his idea of the American Dream in the pages of this book, where he talked about cutting Social Security and used Reagan as an example of a President to emulate. He’s stuck to his word, too. And has managed to unite this divided nation of ours- against him. On the 100the anniversary of Reagan’s whatever it was I was subjected to fawning book covers and pages about Obama’s hero for days. And now he is cutting Social Security with his bipartisan Republican pals, just like he promised.

I don’t know about you, but this doesn’t jive with the Obama the fauxgressives were selling us. This whole thing just isn’t going to work for me. I’m sure it won’t work for a lot of you, either, so run for office instead of electing more morons who will continue to pull this crap on us and expect to get reelected. My plan is to go to Law School and try to change these problems from within instead of sitting here and bitching about it.

But Isis, I can hear some people saying. Law School is expensive. You depend on those Pell Grants Obama and the Tea Party losers are cutting left and right and spending on unnecessary wars, a shitty Health Care Law and Michelle’s vacations in Spain to pay for your tuition, books and other fees. What are you going to do?

Well, shit. Whatever FAFSA doesn’t cover anymore I’ll supplement with scholarships. I just got a job that will pay for my Master’s Degree in Social Work so long as I get a good GPA. And certain agencies and non profits in my field of study will pay back all of my tuition if I end up working for them. As for the rest, it’s back to the pole and the pipe. And don’t think I’ll be the only one.

Credo

Tamerlane’s True Liberal Nation is my Credo. Make it yours too!

True Liberal Nation™

Because They’re All Blue States™

Despite the spew of lies and distortions from the Right, true liberal values are actually shared by a majority of Americans.  From universal healthcare, taxes, to renewable energy and avoiding needless wars, liberal values are American values.   As the traditional standard-bearer of liberal ideals, The Democratic Party — the largest political party in the free world — has failed.  Failed both to promote liberal ideals and to adhere to them.   That’s where True Liberal Nation™ steps in.

True Liberal Nation is a nationwide political advocacy group devoted to three goals

  1. Combat the defamation of the true liberal principles that most Americans believe in;
  2. Persuade the Democratic Party to adhere to liberal principals, and to nominate only true liberal candidates;
  3. Support third party candidates, or run candidates of our own, when required.

TLN will launch multiple initiatives to further these goals.  On our agenda for 2011 are the first set of these initiatives:

1. BO Must GO

Our first priority is to send an unmistakable message to the leadership of the Democratic Party:  under no circumstances will true liberals vote for barack obama in 2012.  Nor will we vote for any Democrats who endorse obama in 2012.

In 2008, some true liberals saw BO for the fraud he really was, some believed his glittering promises, while others of us voted for him simply because the was the Democratic candidate.  But BO has let down every liberal principle, renege on his campaign primaries, promoting a  corporatist agenda.  So now, BO must GO.  You can take part by helping us implement these action items:

BO Must GO Action Items

  • “Balls For Barry”  — send golf balls to DNC headquarters, a small hint of how we’d like BO to be spending all his time come January 2013;
  • “Promise Breaker”  — the MSM has glossed over BO’s long trail of broken campaign promises while gussying up his few lame achievements.  TLN will compile an accurate list of BO’s broken promises and his ditching of liberal principles for a corporatist agenda.
  • An online petition to the Democratic leadership advising them of our firm commitment not to vote for BO ever again;
  • Swag — bumper stickers, buttons, signs & t-shirts declaring BO Must GO;
  • Video Ad announcing our conviction that BO Must GO.

2. Draft Hillary

In 2008, the most qualified candidate in the Democratic primaries, the one with the most experience, and the broadest appeal among the general public, receive d the most votes.  But she was denied a chance to claim the nomination via a series of despicable chicanery and rule-breaking by Party leaders.  And the beneficiary of all these shenanigans has turned out to be the worst betrayer of liberal ideals ever.

We still believe that Hillary Clinton is by far the best choice for President.  Following her display of clarity, grace, tenacity during the 2008 campaign, Clinton has further proven her excellence while Secretary of State.

TLN’s task is two-fold: 1) Urge Secretary Clinton to run again; 2) Let the Democratic leadership know that the candidate most of us wanted in 2008 is still the candidate we want now.  You can take part by helping us implement these action items:

Draft Hillary Action Items

  • Send Hillary a Valentine on February 14th — Let Hillary know how much we appreciate all she’s done, and beg her for just one more thing — a run in 2012!
  • Hillary ’12 Swag
  • Video ad — Let Hillary and the Democratic Party know we need her;
  • Online Petition — declaring our enthusiastic support for Hillary in 2012!

3.  The True Liberal Nation Platform

TLN will draft a clear yet comprehensive platform, stating our positions in all areas of domestic & foreign policy.  The TLN platform will serve as a guide to all our decision-making, initiatives and messaging.

You can help us by sending us the issues that you feel most strongly about, or by joining the Platform committee.

4. Candidate Rankings

For many of us, it was a painful lesson to learn in recent years that politics is not all black and white — or straight red & blue.  Blind party loyalty no more! –  we will only support candidates who promote true liberal objectives.   To that end, we will develop a ranking of candidates.

Residing on an online database, the TLN Candidate Ranking will serve as  a voters guide.  A feature will allow TLN members will also be able to submit their own “reviews” of candidates.

You can help us by researching candidates in your district and state, or by helping us build & maintain the database.

5. Endorsements & “Undorsements”

Based on candidates’ records and positions, TLN will issue endorsements for every major office.  Unlike other interest groups, however,  TLN will also issue “Undorsements” in each race, specifically identifying the candidates who do not share TLN’s goals.

You can help us by researching candidates in your district and state.

6. The “No Less Than Liberal” Initiative

When the field offered by the established parties offers no true liberals, we will run our own candidates, either in primaries or as independents in the general elections.  Make no mistake — we don’t expect to win.  But the mere presence of TLN candidates on the ballot will underscore  our refusal to accept anything “less than liberal”.

You can help us by running letting us know you’ll run for office.

7.  Local Committees

Ideas are nothing without action.  We need you to form a local TLN committee to help us accomplish our common goals.  Your committee will discuss ideas & issues, work together on initiatives & actions, and give us feedback to help us formulate positions and strategy.

Let us know if you are interested in forming a local TLN Committee.

8. Leadership Council

We are currently forming an steering committee to determine how to best implement these goals and infinitives.  To facilitate our efforts, one of the first steps will be to register as a political action committee.  A leadership council will then be formed to supervise the many TLN efforts.

Let us know if you are interested in participating in the national TLN Committees.

A Grass Seed Movement

As the old adage says, if you want something done right, you need to do it yourself. True Liberal Nation is a nationwide political advocacy movement, but it is nothing without you.  Not astroturfed, not grassroots, TLN is more a “grass seed” movement — we provided the germs of ideas and actions, and you provide the watering and cultivation.

In addition to your participation in our public action items, TLN will need your input, your involvement, and eventually your financial support.  Let us know how you can help by contacting us today at mailto:trueliberalnexus@yahoo.com.

You can also help by spreading the word:  The True Liberal Nation has awoken, and we demand better!

Booooo: First Day of February News

The biggest news items this week: I bought a Macbook. Also, Little Isis got a Macbook.  Every time I feel sad or irritated I just look at it or open it and suddenly it all gets better…

Anyway, the other news is that Obama’s shitty Health Care Law was declared unconstitutional.

In ruling against President Obama‘s health care law, federal Judge Roger Vinson used Mr. Obama‘s own position from the 2008 campaign against him, when the then-Illinois senator argued there were other ways to achieve reform short of requiring every American to purchase insurance.

“I note that in 2008, then-Senator Obama supported a health care reform proposal that did not include an individual mandate because he was at that time strongly opposed to the idea, stating that, ‘If a mandate was the solution, we can try that to solve homelessness by mandating everybody to buy a house,’” Judge Vinson wrote in a footnote toward the end of his 78-page ruling Monday.

John Smart is going to have a guest on his show tonight to discuss how this turn of events on Obamacare will affect all of us. Tune in at 6pm pacific (9pm eastern).

Personally, I can’t say I’m unhappy about this. You will remember my reaction when it passed.

All this change! All this hope! I can’t take it! I’m going to spontaneously combust!

The world is going insane, and while normally I like insanity, this is not the good kind. Obama has just passed national RomneyObamacare–a Nixon wet dream originating from the Heritage Foundation in the 1990s in opposition to Hillarycare, and yet lunatic “Tea Partiers” are running around vandalizing the houses of Congressidiots who voted for the heaping pile of shit, screaming that they are “socialists?”

Obama signs an executive order restricting women’s access to abortion, and so called “progressives” and “feminists” are having kool aid induced orgasms as they compare the passage of a Health Insurance Reform Bill that would be better served as toilet paper to the Civil Rights Act? What the fuck?

Well, maybe I’m being unfair. The Bill IS Historic. Historically shitty.

So now what happens? I say we start from scratch. There was nothing progressive about this bill, so this time we don’t just put the public option on the table, we make it the main course. More on this as the story develops and who knows what’s going to happen, but either way, it’s a blow for the Obama Administration, his Health Care Law being his only one of his signature historical accomplishments of historicalness.

Everyone should be keeping a close eye on the Middle East this week too.  Huffington Post has the latest updates:

oday 9:47 AM Sen. John Kerry Calls For Mubarak To Step Down

Writing in the New York Times today, Sen. John Kerry, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, called on Mubarak to step aside. He wrote:

It is not enough for President Mubarak to pledge “fair” elections, as he did on Saturday. The most important step that he can take is to address his nation and declare that neither he nor the son he has been positioning as his successor will run in the presidential election this year. Egyptians have moved beyond his regime, and the best way to avoid unrest turning into upheaval is for President Mubarak to take himself and his family out of the equation.

You can read the entire piece here. Last weekend, Kerry said, “President Mubarak has the opportunity to quell the unrest by guaranteeing that a free and open democratic process will be in place when the time comes to choose the country’s next leader later this year.”

Wonk also has the latest updates at her place, with her wonky self.

Monday Morning Palinpalooza

I am almost as sick of hearing about and seeing Sarah Palin as I am hearing about and seeing Barack Obama, but the news is awful, the weather is boo boo, and as a liberal fem I am apparently supposed to go into a screaming emotional PMS induced rant every time her name is even brought up. Why fight it?

I don’t plan on reading or buying her new book. Do any of you? I didn’t think so. But Historiann has the scoop.

Don’t miss Michelle Goldberg’s analysis of the feminist history in Sarah Palin’s new bookAmerica by Heart: Reflections on Family, Faith and Flag. Apparently, it gets worse after the diabetes-inducing title.  I agree with Goldberg that “[i]n some ways, it’s a good thing that Sarah Palin calls herself a feminist. It means that, even among conservatives, women’s equality has become a normative position, the starting point for debate. It means that feminism has gone from something that the right wants to destroy to something it wants to appropriate. That’s progress, of a sort.”  This is indeed a new development–Phyllis Schlafly’s days are over, for now, and it would be even too intellectually dishonest for Palin to pretend that feminism had nothing to do with shaping the possibilities of her political career.

As an optimist I am also pleased that a woman politician at least has to call herself a feminist to get anywhere, much less conservative woman. But this step forward is not to Bible Spice’s credit. A woman in politics has to call herself a feminist now because of the treatment a certain plucky Secretary of State received not just in 2008 but throughout her entire life in public service. Just sayin’. Let’s continue.

However, Palin is all wet when it comes to American history in general, and as Goldberg explains, feminist history in particular:  she claims Elizabeth Cady Stanton as a devout Christian–a woman who once said that “[y]ou may go over the world and you will find that every form of religion which has breathed upon this earth has degraded women,” and who wrote her own version of the Bible.  (Truly, this is more laughable than the people who try to re-claim Thomas Jefferson as a godbag.)  Palin repeats the flimsy lie that Susan B. Anthony was anti-abortion, and she repeats the distortions of Margaret Sanger’s work and career by claiming that she advocated “Nazi-style eugenics.”  (She cites the esteemed historian Jonah Goldberg’s Liberal Fascism on Sanger.)

Elizabeth Cady Stanton and another fun fem, Amelia Earheart, also rejected the usefulness of remaining faithful to their husbands. Amelia even passed a petition about it around. Hillary wasn’t the first classy lady to question standing by her man. So far that’s Hillary: 2 Sarah: 0.

Sarah Palin is a huge disappointment.  She could have countered her detractors the right way and continued working for the people of her beloved Alaska, but instead she has allowed herself and her family to be turned into celebrity jokes. Marketing yourself as a pundit on Fox News and giving yourself a reality show on TLC is not the way to prove you’re Presidential material. So much for all that maverick talk about Middle America. She should have taken a leaf out of that crazy bra burning feminist Hillary Clinton’s book instead of Barack Obama’s. Now she and him are like the American Idol clones of Presidential Politics. If they are both running in 2012 we won’t even be able to take a break and watch an episode of House or Dexter without one of them guest starring. They and their brands will be EVERYWHERE. God help us all!

I still don’t believe you have to be liberal or pro choice to be a feminist, but Caribou Barbie stopped caring about standing up to the good old boys a long time ago. It was probably some time in between the grand finale of Dancing with the Stars or a deep philosophical connection with Dick Morris while he was ghostwriting her new book. At least now she is caught up to the President and has managed to write two autobiographies without actually accomplishing much of anything.

Either way, from now on she’s on her own.

What’s a “Liberal” Again?

President Obama is considered a “liberal” Democrat in denial by the Village. If you ask Obama about his “shellacking” (can I take the time to point out how lame that word is and how sick I am of hearing it?) two weeks ago he will say that it was a messaging problem. While he was toiling away with legislation trying to help us ingrates he just didn’t have the time to go out and say how all of it was going to benefit our ungrateful behinds so we punished him at the voting booth for not chatting with us enough.

And it is at this point that most Americans ask themselves if he has mental problems. As John Smart explained earlier,

The idea that Obama’s problem is one of persuasion or communication is complete bullshit. Total bullshit. Undiluted, grade-A bullshit. Here’s why: He’s been on television constantly since he came into office, he been on every third chat show, he’s been on ESPN, he gave over 50 major addresses on healthcare, he tortured us with a 3 month Hamlet act on Afghanistan (now largely moot.) all of it made public to prove he had depth, he made a nationally televised address from Congress on healthcare, he hosted a White House summit on healthcare, he spent the 2 months before the midterm in full campaign mode, he made the rounds of backyards across the land, he’s got an entire network – MSNBC – dedicated to pushing his message and an army of talking head apologists, not to mention the forever blabbing Biden, he’s got the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, a slew of nationally syndicated columnists who still believe his nonsense, and a festering caldron of bloggers still churning out pro-Obama sewage.

The message got out, Mr. President. The people heard it. They did not like the message and do not like the messengers. Most don’t like the other side much either but we are only allowed to choose between Coke and Pepsi, so one had to lose.

You communicated, Barry. Loud and clear. Not a day went by without a message fromyour highness. Communication is not the problem. You are.

A COMMUNICATION PROBLEM? Are you serious? Is that why he thinks he lost? Not a day has gone by in the past two years where any of us has been able to escape his ass. He has constantly been on our T.V. screens, the magazines we read, the shows we watch. He was on the View! THE VIEW! Personally, it’s a tough call between him and Justin Bieber as to who I am sick of seeing more. It gets to a point where I go to the drug store to pick up gum or cigarettes and he is on the cover of a pack of Newports. I want to run around in circles screaming “Get out of my life!”

Frankly, Americans voted for him because he was a Democrat and he promised to deliver change. Instead, he gave us more of the same. A Heritage Foundation version of Health Insurance Reform and a lousy stimulus are cited as his “liberal” legislative accomplishments. He also continued the Bush Bailouts, continued both Wars, continued using the Constitution as a kleenex by citing “executive authority” as a reason to assassinate someone without a trial, and he now plans on destroying Social Security and extending the Bush Tax cuts.

THAT’S why he got his ass handed to him in the midterms. Not because we failed to see how great all of that “stuff” he got done was. We saw what he “got done” and it was the exact same thing we wanted to stop seeing when he got into office.

Obama may be claiming he is taking responsibility for the “shellacking”, but he is not. And despite all evidence to the contrary he is still considered by the media to be a “liberal” Democrat.

I and almost everyone on this blog consider myself a “liberal.” Call me crazy, but I don’t see someone who wants to have butt sex with Ronald Reagan and wants to uphold DADT as liberal, but maybe I’m missing the definition of what a “liberal” is.

As a Liberal, I believe in a Social Safety net, equal rights for all and war as an unnecessary evil. As a Liberal I believe in empowering people rather than trying to get power over them. And as a Liberal I believe that the moment you think you’re better than anyone else is the moment you need to be punched in the face.

This is the anti-thesis of everything Obama has done in his career and as Commander in Chief, so why is he considered a “liberal?” And why is Bill Clinton, a guy who spent his entire life and Presidency trying to empower people rather than get power over them considered a DLC “Centrist?” It boggles my mind.

I think that over the past few decades in this country Movement Conservatives have succeeded in tainting the word “liberal” into meaning something it isn’t. If Obama is a “Liberal” than I’m most certainly not one. So what does that make me? A Socialist?

Monday Morning News

Facebook is taking over the world. The latest news? They plan on coming out with a full email product!

At this point the unrolling of an e-mail product is pure speculation, however could fast become a reality if sources are spot on with their assessments. Popular technology blog, TechCrunch, seems to indicate the rumors about what has been referred to in the past as “Project Titan” are indeed true; the blog is well-known in the industry as a reliable source for breaking news in technology.

Having problems with hair loss, graying or just need to grow out your hair a little bit? Rosemary oil is the solution.

A study conducted in Scotland showed that rosemary can work for alopecia areata in helping to grow hair. Participants of the study rubbed a mixture of rosemary oil along with other essential oils such as cedar wood, thyme, and lavender onto their scalps. You can make your own rosemary hair tonic by purchasing these essential oils form your local health food store, and they can be directly applied to the scalp to prevent hair loss and graying. One such concoction calls for rosemary oil to be mixed with apple cider vinegar, and after shampooing, it can be used as a rinse to help strengthen your hair.

Some people do not wish to use prescription medications and chemicals which are now available for the treatment of hair loss, and this is a natural treatment. For those who are adverse to using drugs and are looking for a more holistic approach, the use of rosemary oil is worth a try. Pregnant women should avoid using rosemary oil as it can harm the fetus and possibly cause a miscarriage. Please consult with your doctor before using rosemary oil.

I’ve personally found that natural remedies tend to work better than drug store products. And since I look fantastic, I’d say I’m a reliable source. Rosemary is also excellent for relieving sinuses and headaches.

In more serious news, Haitians are currently being ravaged by cholera. Haven’t they suffered enough?

Up to 200,000 Haitians could contract cholera as the outbreak which has already killed 800 is set to spread across the battered Caribbean nation of nearly 10 million, the United Nations said on Friday. That would be double the 100,000 cases during a huge cholera epidemic in Zimbabwe between August 2008 and July 2009, which killed 4,287 people. The U.N. forecast of the number of cases in Haiti was based partly on the Zimbabwe toll.
In a strategy plan drawn up with Haiti’s government and aid agencies, the U.N. said Haiti needs $163.9 million in aid over the next year to combat the epidemic, the first cholera outbreak in the country in a century. Cholera could also spread to the neighbouring Dominican Republic, it said.

Unfortunately, we can’t even get our shit together at home. The brilliant leaders of the current Democratic Party have finally figured out why the voters didn’t show up at the polls for them.

After nearly two weeks of introspection, President Obama‘s top advisers have concluded that the “shellacking” Democrats took on Election Day was caused in large part by their own failure to live up to expectations set during the 2008 campaign, not merely the typical political cycles and poor messaging they pointed to at first.

The voters rejected them because in 2008 they voted for change and got more of the same? NO WAY!

I can’t get over these losers. And you know what? I quit. We should let robots take over instead.

Robots and other machines equipped with artificial intelligence shoot military targets, distribute cash (think: ATMs), drive cars and deliver medication to patients, to name a few. If people performed these duties, they would be expected to behave in a certain way and follow moral and ethical guidelines. But what about robots? They can’t yet think and act on their own accord, so should we expect them to behave morally?

Researchers working in the field of machine ethics say yes and are investigating ways to program machines to behave morally.

Philosopher Susan Anderson and her research partner and husband Michael Anderson, a computer scientist have programmed a robot to behave in an ethical manner.Based on certain facts and outcomes, the robot must weigh a decision and make choices about what to do. The situation is rooted in the medical field, where the robot’s duties involve reminding patients to take their medicine. A human would judge how often to remind a patient to take medicine and whether or not to inform the doctor if the patient refuses to take the medicine. But how do you program a robot to do that?

The Andersons created a software program based on an approach to ethics developed in 1930 by Scottish philosopher David Ross. The so-called prima facie duty approach takes into account the different obligations a person must face — such as being just, doing good, not causing harm, keeping a promise — when deciding how to act in a moral way.
