    • Lazy Caturday Reads December 4, 2021
      Good Afternoon!! I’m getting a late start today. The news this week has been so awful; I feel really exhausted and drained of energy. Using the computer has gotten more difficult for me as I’ve gotten older. I can’t believe I just turned 74. Reading on the computer really bothers my eyes now; fortunately I […]

      Happy Friday Sky Dancers! I’m going to make this entire weekend TV-free. It’s easy for me because all forms of sportsball bore me and I certainly don’t need to see the endless talking heads as it’s been a depressing enough week already. Most movies and tv shows bore me too so my plan is to […]

    • Thursday Reads: Back To the 1950s (Which Were Not ‘Happy Days’ for Women) December 2, 2021
      Good Morning!! There are plenty of interesting news stories out there today, but all I can think about is that the right wing Supreme Court is poised to reverse Roe v. Wade and attempt to return American women to the second class status we inhabited when I was a girl in the 1950s and early […]

      What the fuckity fuck? That is all I’m gonna say about that. Cartoons are from the Cagle website: I’ve been dealing with a cold since Thanksgiving…so just adding some links below: This thread is tough to read: That’s it for now…one more thing: This is an open thread.

    • Tuesday Reads: Omicron, Trump, and Cuomo November 30, 2021
      Good Afternoon!! Once again, there isn’t a lot of good news out there to talk about. The media is still “freaking out” about the Covid omicron variant, and we still don’t actually know much about it. Trump and his goons are still threatening U.S. democracy, and the DOJ appears to be doing nothing to stop […]

    • Manic Monday Reads: Double Standard Edition November 29, 2021
      Good Day Sky Dancers! The one thing that’s become more apparent to me than anything else is the double standard in the media and elsewhere with what they tolerate from white men who are screaming like scalded hogs at the moment and essentially trying to install an autocratic government to retain their privilege and control […]

      Good Afternoon!! I wanted to try to find some good news to post today, but there just isn’t much of it out there. I guess it’s sort good news that a Republican associated with Mitch McConnell has criticized Rep.Loren Boebert for her grotesque attack on Rep. Ilian Omar. Raw Story: ‘Absolute garbage rhetoric’: Mitch McConnell […]

    • Virulant Friday Reads: Get Ready for the Next Wave November 26, 2021
      Happy Avoiding Black Friday Day! I spent Thanksgiving with my neighbors, which is so lovely on many levels.  It really felt like the first typical holiday for me in a few years. The last one was the Mardi Gras, where I woke up with something that made me highly ill for weeks. I was really […]

      Happy Thanksgiving!! I hope you all have a very pleasant day with family and friends or alone if that’s what you prefer. I have spent many Thanksgiving Days by myself and have been grateful to be able to do so. I usually get really stressed out over “the holidays,” and I guess that’s beginning for […]

Credo

Tamerlane’s True Liberal Nation is my Credo. Make it yours too!

True Liberal Nation™

Because They’re All Blue States™

Despite the spew of lies and distortions from the Right, true liberal values are actually shared by a majority of Americans.  From universal healthcare, taxes, to renewable energy and avoiding needless wars, liberal values are American values.   As the traditional standard-bearer of liberal ideals, The Democratic Party — the largest political party in the free world — has failed.  Failed both to promote liberal ideals and to adhere to them.   That’s where True Liberal Nation™ steps in.

True Liberal Nation is a nationwide political advocacy group devoted to three goals

  1. Combat the defamation of the true liberal principles that most Americans believe in;
  2. Persuade the Democratic Party to adhere to liberal principals, and to nominate only true liberal candidates;
  3. Support third party candidates, or run candidates of our own, when required.

TLN will launch multiple initiatives to further these goals.  On our agenda for 2011 are the first set of these initiatives:

1. BO Must GO

Our first priority is to send an unmistakable message to the leadership of the Democratic Party:  under no circumstances will true liberals vote for barack obama in 2012.  Nor will we vote for any Democrats who endorse obama in 2012.

In 2008, some true liberals saw BO for the fraud he really was, some believed his glittering promises, while others of us voted for him simply because the was the Democratic candidate.  But BO has let down every liberal principle, renege on his campaign primaries, promoting a  corporatist agenda.  So now, BO must GO.  You can take part by helping us implement these action items:

BO Must GO Action Items

  • “Balls For Barry”  — send golf balls to DNC headquarters, a small hint of how we’d like BO to be spending all his time come January 2013;
  • “Promise Breaker”  — the MSM has glossed over BO’s long trail of broken campaign promises while gussying up his few lame achievements.  TLN will compile an accurate list of BO’s broken promises and his ditching of liberal principles for a corporatist agenda.
  • An online petition to the Democratic leadership advising them of our firm commitment not to vote for BO ever again;
  • Swag — bumper stickers, buttons, signs & t-shirts declaring BO Must GO;
  • Video Ad announcing our conviction that BO Must GO.

2. Draft Hillary

In 2008, the most qualified candidate in the Democratic primaries, the one with the most experience, and the broadest appeal among the general public, receive d the most votes.  But she was denied a chance to claim the nomination via a series of despicable chicanery and rule-breaking by Party leaders.  And the beneficiary of all these shenanigans has turned out to be the worst betrayer of liberal ideals ever.

We still believe that Hillary Clinton is by far the best choice for President.  Following her display of clarity, grace, tenacity during the 2008 campaign, Clinton has further proven her excellence while Secretary of State.

TLN’s task is two-fold: 1) Urge Secretary Clinton to run again; 2) Let the Democratic leadership know that the candidate most of us wanted in 2008 is still the candidate we want now.  You can take part by helping us implement these action items:

Draft Hillary Action Items

  • Send Hillary a Valentine on February 14th — Let Hillary know how much we appreciate all she’s done, and beg her for just one more thing — a run in 2012!
  • Hillary ’12 Swag
  • Video ad — Let Hillary and the Democratic Party know we need her;
  • Online Petition — declaring our enthusiastic support for Hillary in 2012!

3.  The True Liberal Nation Platform

TLN will draft a clear yet comprehensive platform, stating our positions in all areas of domestic & foreign policy.  The TLN platform will serve as a guide to all our decision-making, initiatives and messaging.

You can help us by sending us the issues that you feel most strongly about, or by joining the Platform committee.

4. Candidate Rankings

For many of us, it was a painful lesson to learn in recent years that politics is not all black and white — or straight red & blue.  Blind party loyalty no more! –  we will only support candidates who promote true liberal objectives.   To that end, we will develop a ranking of candidates.

Residing on an online database, the TLN Candidate Ranking will serve as  a voters guide.  A feature will allow TLN members will also be able to submit their own “reviews” of candidates.

You can help us by researching candidates in your district and state, or by helping us build & maintain the database.

5. Endorsements & “Undorsements”

Based on candidates’ records and positions, TLN will issue endorsements for every major office.  Unlike other interest groups, however,  TLN will also issue “Undorsements” in each race, specifically identifying the candidates who do not share TLN’s goals.

You can help us by researching candidates in your district and state.

6. The “No Less Than Liberal” Initiative

When the field offered by the established parties offers no true liberals, we will run our own candidates, either in primaries or as independents in the general elections.  Make no mistake — we don’t expect to win.  But the mere presence of TLN candidates on the ballot will underscore  our refusal to accept anything “less than liberal”.

You can help us by running letting us know you’ll run for office.

7.  Local Committees

Ideas are nothing without action.  We need you to form a local TLN committee to help us accomplish our common goals.  Your committee will discuss ideas & issues, work together on initiatives & actions, and give us feedback to help us formulate positions and strategy.

Let us know if you are interested in forming a local TLN Committee.

8. Leadership Council

We are currently forming an steering committee to determine how to best implement these goals and infinitives.  To facilitate our efforts, one of the first steps will be to register as a political action committee.  A leadership council will then be formed to supervise the many TLN efforts.

Let us know if you are interested in participating in the national TLN Committees.

A Grass Seed Movement

As the old adage says, if you want something done right, you need to do it yourself. True Liberal Nation is a nationwide political advocacy movement, but it is nothing without you.  Not astroturfed, not grassroots, TLN is more a “grass seed” movement — we provided the germs of ideas and actions, and you provide the watering and cultivation.

In addition to your participation in our public action items, TLN will need your input, your involvement, and eventually your financial support.  Let us know how you can help by contacting us today at mailto:trueliberalnexus@yahoo.com.

You can also help by spreading the word:  The True Liberal Nation has awoken, and we demand better!

How many times do we have to have this conversation?

Yesterday my room mate and I met our new neighbor across the hall. She is an extremely kind woman whose cat had just died, and we baked her cookies to extend our condolences. She invited us in for hot chocolate and gave us some of her cats old toys, and we had a very pleasant visit. She was a solid white lady, probably in her seventies and recently widowed. We had a smoke together and she told me about her family back in Chicago. My grandma just died recently and hanging around with her lifted my spirits a great deal.

She also had a book by Bill O’Reilly on her coffee table. Fox news was blaring in plain site on her TV, there was a magnet on her refrigerator that said “God Loves You,” and she had a book about the rapture in her shelf. Yup, white older female, Christian and well within the Tea Party Demographic. I tried for a few seconds to give a shit, and found that I couldn’t.

See, I get people like Beverly-that is her name. I grew up around her. Salt of the Earth folk. Well in my case, salt of the earth stoners, alcoholics and nutcases but I am still proud god dammit. My father’s family came from a small train station town called Urichsville, Ohio. My grandpa beat pipes with hammers and went fishin’ out on Lake Tappan and my dad learned how to play the guitar on a rock overhang next to the lake. He had three brothers and to this day my uncles are still guitar strummin’ hillbilly white trash and don’t you forget it.  They even have a band to prove it. It’s  called “Bad Idea,” because when they formed it my dad said, “This is a bad idea.” They sing a variety of songs but this is their favorite tune to jam to:

My dad left Urichsville to be an accountant and went to Kent State. He wasn’t handsome or charming but at least he was good with numbers. He traded all that for a yuppy house in the suburbs, plastic surgery and a second wife with a boob job and his conservatism is based on economic rather than social policy, but it comes from a humble place.

My mom has had a hard life and she relies on her faith and friends for support, most of which I have known my whole life. They are good if not misguided people and I do not begrudge them their political and religious differences from me, because in their eyes I am accepted as well.

These people work hard and they are bombarded daily with media that is patriarchal, monotheistic and right wing. The MSM has probably been selling the “this country is center-right” lie since the age of movement conservatism and they do this while selling the issues from a left vs. right perspective that is framed from the “center right.”

To be frank, most people in this country are neither liberal nor conservative, and the number of registered independents proves my point. Every time I get into a discussion of politics with someone, they tell me, “I just want to support whatever works.” That is what we all want, regardless of ideology. Politics should be about making people’s lives better, but most of the time it is turned into a game and it’s purpose is to fill the pockets of the elites. The silliest of Americans understand that.

The Tea Party has it’s origins in populism and since then it has been astroturfed by crazy right wingers. They are running candidates that make me want to hide under my bed and cry. But Americans just want solutions to problems, and the Teabaggers may be telling some of them what they want to hear. They could care less about the kooky religahoon xion flag waving social conservatism even if it’s weird even for them. Loony conservatives in the Republican Party have been saying for years that they want to control women’s uterus’, teach creationism in public schools and put queers on death row but it has never happened (mostly). We have checks and balances in our political system that prevents extremism from being legislated.

Christine O’Donnell makes me whimper, but I want a witchhunt on her platform, not her panini. If I child shows up at my doorstep dressed as Sharon Angle on Halloween I am going to run away screaming but calling a woman a b*tch is unacceptable unless it is meant as a term of endearment. And Sarah Palin makes my left eye twitch sometimes when she says some of the things she says, but putting her on the cover of mother jones as a scantily clad she-monster is taking it a step or two too far. Come on, guys.

That being said, I will never vote for a Tea Party member or a Republican. I am a liberal and I vote for candidates who have earned my vote. The founding fathers did not write the constitution and form the first Democratic Republic in history so I could waste my vote and my free speech on Charlie Crist or Marco Rubio. Are you kidding me with this? And I did not file my tax returns last year so I could vote for Kendrick Meeks, who put a government patent on my uterus when he voted for “HCR” and Stupakistan. Hell no.

Alex Sink seems vote worthy and there are some amendments I have my eye on, but for now I say “none of the above.” America is at a crossroads. We have to decide, in times like this, whether we stick by our principles and only vote for candidates who have earned our vote or we reward those who do not have our best interests at heart and have demonstrated it repeatedly with our tax dollars and our trust.

I’ve made my decision. I might just be plain white trash but liberal is my game. What’s yours?

To Democrats: This is what you get for Stupakestan

Female voters, once a reliable force for Democrats, are roughly split this fall between the Democrats and Republicans running for Congress and governor. Recent Gallup polling, assuming a traditional turnout for a midterm election, finds that Republicans are favored by female likely voters, 49% to 46%.

*Points at Democrats* HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Oh, and Donna, this is for you:
